Barbara Rief-Vernay

Architect, urban planner, researcher in architecture, urban development and urban history, university lecturer at the Vienna University of Technology, graduation in architecture (Vienna University of Technology), doctoral degree in urban geography and spatial planning (Université Paris Ouest and Vienna University of Technology), working experiences as an architect in different architectural studios in Austria and as a researcher in the laboratory of urban research UMR LAVUE CNRS 7218, Paris/France, co-founder of the working group: Vienna-Budapest- 20th century urban spaces (2016), numerous publications in renowned scientific journals and lectures at international conferences, major fields of research: urban development of Vienna and other central-European metropolises (historical and contemporary approaches)/ modernist city planning in central-European metropolises (historical approach)/ culture, built heritage, urban history and post-fordist urban policies/ the postmodern “old town” and contemporary urban policies/ public debates about contemporary architecture in the old town context.
