Urban Planning - Vienna as a European capital: the importance of historical, cultural and architectural aspects in sustainable city planning
Vienna is a major European capital city, whose origins date back to Roman times. As many other European metropolises, Vienna underwent a large-scale redevelopment in the late 19th century in the wake of industrialisation. To this date, the 19th century built-up areas and road networks dominate large parts of its urban setting. That said, the city planning department has been facing new challenges way ahead of globalisation and the population growth related to the opening of the borders with Central and Eastern Europe. The city is dedicated to guaranteeing a steady supply of affordable housing, keeping state-of-the art transportation systems , improving the quality of public spaces and constantly renovating historic neighbourhoods. In addition, Vienna has to assert itself as an internationally renowned business destination. All these issues require prudent and sustainable urban development strategies.
IoT - Creative Engineering
The Internet of Things (IoT) is a recent communication paradigm that envisions a near future. In this concept the objects of everyday usage will be equipped with smart units (microcontrollers, transceivers for digital communication), and they will have suitable protocols that will make them able to communicate between themselves, becoming an integral part of the Internet. An IoT is enabling easy access and interaction with a wide variety of devices such as: home appliances, surveillance cameras, monitoring sensors, actuators, displays, vehicles, and so on. An IoT will foster the development of a number of applications that make use of the potentially enormous amount and variety of data generated by such objects to provide new services to citizens, companies, and public administrations.
During this winter school you will learn more about IoT concept, about solutions for Smart agriculture, Smart Home and Smart City. Successful case studies from the market will be presented. During the school all students will work practically with development kits and they will develop an applicable IoT solution.
The course will cover the development of IoT in near future and will make the students ready for the challenges of the next decade.
